An Outer, Inner, and Secret Garden
The outer garden was passed on to us by Rita Berger who established
it 30-some years ago. It includes lilacs, peonies, various bushes including
quince. The focus of the outer garden is the large cottonwood. The charm is
in this garden facing
11th Street.
The inner garden includes a secluded patio with gazebo, flowers, peach tree
and the rose bushes. It also includes behind a second
fence the stewardship
of the Madonna-of-Fifth-and-Dellwood. She was moved here ten years ago when
the house on Dellwood was up for sale.
The secret garden is along the alleyway and it is here that eccentricity is given free reign. Sometimes dishes are planted here along with herbs surrounded by lilacs and whatever strikes my fancy. Sculpture contributions from several artists abound.
