There's mystery in a garden, as there is in the painting of a garden. The
element of mystery is an enhancement to all art.
Things show up - unbidden. Where do they come from? Why are plants given
by friends the ones that thrive? Lowly, homely weeds provide balance among
the bright blossoms, just as that ugly muddy paint is great juxtaposed with bright
color.
Being a bit of an academic, I, when starting a painting, plan every inch.
Inevitably, alterations appear - changes large and small - just as in my own little garden.
