Mary Hey paints in pastel, oil, and acrylic. Although her focus for several years has been landscape, she also is known for her still life, figure, and abstract paintings. She has lived most of her life in Boulder and has been deeply affected by the landscape of the Front Range.

Mary made oil paintings as a girl and then revived her love of art thirty years later. She studied pastel painting for six years under Doug Dawson, master pastelist, at the Art Students League in Denver. Over those same years, she also took classes and workshops at the Naropa Institute, the Loveland Academy of Art, and the Boulder Academy of Fine Art.

She has shown her art widely in shows along the Front Range, where she has won several awards. Her paintings are held by over 100 collectors around the United States, and a a few are owned by European, Japanese, and Russian collectors.
